Dip into Something Different from The Melting Pot® is FRP’s first Environmentally Considerate Product FRP was honored to work with
The Melting Pot® in creating the fondue restaurant’s first cookbook, Dip
into Something Different. Not only is this an exciting book, it’s
one of the first environmentally considerate cookbooks, an option that FRP
Books, Inc. now offers to all its clients. The Melting Pot® already sells high-quality cheeses and chocolates as well as salad dressings through their stores and Web site. The cookbook was a natural extension of this brand effort. Read the complete article by clicking here.

AWARDS Mailing
The
annual Awards Mailing was sent via e-mail to all FRP Publishers at the end
of August. The material has been posted in the Marketing Assistance
section of MyFRP and can be accessed there. It contains entry information
about the available awards for cookbooks. Deadlines vary starting with
September 26, 2008, and ending March 31, 2009. We encourage publishers to
enter as many award competitions as possible, since awards designation can
help sell books. ATTENTION

When I sent out the request
for recipes to be considered for inclusion in the soon-to-be-released
cookbook Recipes
Worth Sharing… Recipes and Stories from America’s Most-Loved Community
Cookbooks, I was both thrilled and overwhelmed at the response.
The goal was somewhere around 500 recipes. I thought I would have lots of
duplicates or similar recipes, but that was not the case. When a bunch of
cookbook committee members are asked to share the best-of-the-best, their
go-to, signature recipe(s) from their cookbooks—they deliver! With
the release date near and a special QVC appearance upcoming, I have been
cooking exclusively from Recipes
Worth Sharing. With each new recipe I try, I get more and more
excited about this collection. These recipes are truly unbelievable. And I
just can't pick a favorite. The Bodacious Brownies from Roux
to Do will surely satisfy any sweet tooth, and the incredible
Spicy Enchiladas from Cooking
by the Bootstraps were so easy and delicious—they were a hit with
everyone from 5-year-old Matthew to Kiki (grandma) at our Labor Day
gathering. The list goes on…but for this month’s A Recipe Worth
Sharing I selected one of the most unlikely recipes for me to choose:
Ham-Wiches
submitted by the Junior League of Tampa from The
Gasparilla Cookbook. As I’m sure many of you did as well, here in Ole Miss country we had out first football and tailgating outing of the season. These sandwiches were so different and held up so well. I just wrapped them in foil straight from the oven, put them in an insulated container, and served them sliced as finger sandwiches. I doubled the recipe because we had a crowd, but they disappeared before I could go back for seconds! This is one of those magical recipes—too good to be forgotten, so simple, yet sooo good! Hope you enjoy. Ham-Wiches1/3 cup butter,
melted 2 tablespoons prepared
mustard 1 small chopped
onion 1 tablespoon poppy
seeds 6 hamburger buns (I used deli
rolls, easier for cutting into finger sandwiches) 6 slices of
ham 6 slices of Swiss
cheese Combine the butter, mustard,
onion, and poppy seeds. Place buns open face on baking sheet. Spread the
mustard mixture on one side of the buns. Place 1 slice ham and 1 slice
cheese on the other buns. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until the
cheese is melted and the buns are toasted. Remove from the oven and serve.
For tailgating, wrap in foil and place in an insulated container to keep
warm.

CORRECTION: In the August issue of Table
Talk, the publisher of Tastes
and Treasures was incorrect. The publisher’s correct name is The
Historical League ( Both the Montgomery
Advertiser (AL) and the Birmingham News (AL) recently
recapped the recent Cookbook Fair, hosted by Wetumpka's Trinity Episcopal Church, publishers
of Shall
We Gather. Here’s a summary of the event from the cookbook
chairman, Phyllis Kennedy: “While Hurricane Fay
pounded us with 10 inches of rain, we had an outstanding response from
cookbook publishers as well as buyers and tasters. In fact, the only complaint we had
was that the room was too crowded! Vendors were able to participate with
little or no cost, via ticket sales. Most of them sold enough books to
make the 3-hour event well worth their effort, and all 21 entrants
indicated that they would like to come again if we plan a sequel. One lady even asked us to do it
twice a year. As for our own success, we sold 40+ cookbooks, made
approximately $2200+ profit from the event, provided a successful venue
for other cookbook publishers, and racked up superb publicity that we
expect to have big results.” The Lafayette (LA) Convention
and Visitors Commission featured a recipe from the Junior League of
Lafayette's Tell
Me More cookbook in the August 2008
e-newsletter. The Madison County
Herald (MS) featured an article about a retailer, Persnickety in
Madison, who teamed up with some of the best food entrepreneurs and
cookbook authors in the state to offer simple and delicious tailgating
recipes using both tried-and-true favorites and ones made with
Mississippi-made products. Debbye Dabbs, author of five cookbooks
including Take
Five, A Men’s Cookbook, was part of that
event. Cooking
