Navigating the Waters of Distribution

Distribution is one piece of the sales pie when it comes to your cookbook. On average, only 10% of a print run will sell through a distributor. (The other pieces are retail sales, where you sell the book directly to the consumer, wholesale sales - selling your book through a bookstore, gourmet shop, etc. and special sales which are corporate sales, etc.)

 

When it comes to distribution, the questions always flow freely. We are going to answer some of the most commonly asked questions about working with a distributor to help you navigate the waters. While distribution sales may offer this smallest amount of revenue per book, distributors are vital in getting your book into the hands of consumers, particularly those who are not in your sales region.

Your spot in the advertisement will include your cookbook's cover, book details and a 10-15 word description of the title. All book sales will be driven through The Cookbook Marketplace website. Cost will be $175 per cookbook title.

If enough publishers respond to this opportunity you will then be sent a title registration form to complete. There are a limited number of spaces available, and the ad will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so don't wait! Grilling burgers, eating fresh corn on the cob, and sipping sangria under an umbrella on the deck with friends…this is my idea of a perfect summer afternoon. With the warmer weather fast approaching, I've been on the lookout for a fresh, new sangria recipe to try on my guests. Savor the Seasons from the Junior League of Tampa had just what I was looking for! This has the great taste of “original” red sangria, without having to purchase several different bottles of various liqueurs I won't use for anything else. It mixes up quickly and can be made in advance if you leave out the soda until just before serving. You can even pour the sangria over ice in glasses and then top each serving with the soda to ensure optimum “fizziness”. After falling in love with this recipe (and their Almond-Crusted Chicken in Strawberry Sauce in the same book), I can hardly wait to see the Junior League of Tampa’s new book this fall!

 

Sippin’ Sangria

 

1 (1.5-liter) bottle cabernet sauvignon or merlot

1 cup vodka

2 cups orange juice

1 cup sugar

¼ teaspoon cinnamon

Orange slices

Apple slices

3 (12-ounce) cans lemon-lime soda

 

Combine the wine, vodka, orange juice, sugar, cinnamon, orange slices and apple slices in a large pitcher or container and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Add the soda just before serving. Serve over ice with pieces of the fruit.

 

Serves 10 to 12
