Casino Take a Gamble at a Cookbook – and Wins!

L’Auberge du Lac Casino Resort is always looking for new and inventive ways to promote its facility. Its beautiful property is located two hours from Houston, Texas on Contraband Bayou in Lake Charles, Louisiana and has a rich and fabled history. It is also nestled in a region known for outstanding cuisine so creating their first-ever cookbook, The Flavor of L’Auberge, seemed like a great tool to tell their story, promote their business and to become a treasured piece of memorabilia for their guests. ”Our customers tend to really connect with us and feel like a part of our family,” says Kerry Anderson, Director of Community and Public Relations.

MORE RECIPES WORTH SHARING

A Second Helping of Recipes & Stories from America’s Most-Loved Community Cookbooks

Following in the very successful footsteps of Recipes Worth Sharing, FRP Publishing is once again looking into the heart of America’s kitchens through community cookbooks. Community cookbooks are used by home cooks for everything from simple family dinners to entertaining. It all comes down to bringing people together around the communal table. Like its predecessor; More Recipes Worth Sharing will include a broad selection of recipes from community cookbooks demonstrating uniqueness of each. Again, the focus is to bring attention to the community cookbook form; the cookbooks that nourish our communities in so many ways. We would love to include your favorite recipes from your favorite community cookbooks. The first e-mail requesting recipes went out earlier this week . Be sure to keep an eye out for more information on submitting your recipes and stories, or contact Sheila Thomas at sthomas@frpbooks.com with any questions.

The original cookbook has sold 23,500 copies in 14 months, and indeed, there are many More Recipes & Stories Worth Sharing.

From Lisa Viator,  Executive Assistant to
the President - Great American Opportunities

On a total fluke I entered a Bake-Off at a community Leadership Picnic last summer.  I wanted to cook a dessert to contribute and didn't plan to enter it, but then thought “well, why not”!  I had picked a fairly simple recipe out of Recipes Worth Sharing. I love to make simple bar cookies and this one had a very cool and clever title too – “Bodacious Brownies, AKA ‘Big Booty Brownies’” (originally found in the Junior League of Greater Covington’s Roux To Do cookbook)!  Much to my surprise and delight I was awarded a Medal and a wooden spoon for winning in the “overall” category.  The three judges were all men if that tells you anything!  These really are delicious brownies…and definitely winners…well, this time anyway!  Enjoy!

Bodacious Brownies, AKA “Big Bootie Brownies”

1 (2-layer) package chocolate cake mix

2 cups chopped walnuts

1 egg

½ (1 stick) butter, melted

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

3 eggs

1 (1 lb) package confectioners’ sugar

Mix the cake mix, walnuts, 1 egg and butter in a bowl. (The batter will be stiff.) Press into a buttered 9 x 13-inch baking pan. Beat the cream cheese, 3 eggs and the confectioners’ sugar in a mixing bowl until smooth. Spread in the prepared pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Cool in the pan before serving.
