Distribution—Is it for Me?

There are several different sales channels through which you can sell your book. The most questions arise when it comes to selling your books through a distributor. Whether or not to use a distributor to expand the scope of your sales is a decision that is best made early on in the development processClick here for the entire article.

The Assistance League of San Antonio says orders are flooding in for Serving San Antonio. Presales were set to hit 2,000, which means the group will have enough money to pay for them in full, up front! Congratulations!

The Junior League of Nashville’s fund-raiser, “Dinner with Friends,” was mentioned in the October 18th issue of The Tennessean (Nashville, TN). This is the third year for the event, where local chefs prepared stylized menus from the League’s cookbook, Notably Nashville, for five hosts who pledged $5,000 each to have someone else do the cooking. The League also offered the book to the public at a discount price of $25 that week.

The Junior League of Sarasota has been busy promoting their brand new cookbook, Simply Sarasota. Media kits for the book were distributed in early September and were received positively by the press. (Quite a few members of the press have commented that the kits were the best they had seen in ten years!) To date, the book has been promoted in Style Magazine, The Pelican Press, The Observer Black Tie, and West Coast Woman. More press coverage is in the works. The local Borders store has wrapped their arms around the book. Their staff chose Simply Sarasota for their regional (125 stores) contest. (Each store chooses the title they think will generate the most sales during the holiday season and then promotes the chosen book during the holiday season.) The cookbook committee has enthusiastically agreed to be moving billboards to generate buzz about the book by driving around town with “For Sale:Simply Sarasota Junior League of Sarasota Cookbook Now on Sale” car magnets placed on their automobiles! Sounds like things are moving in the right direction in Sarasota!

Entertaining with Friends, the cookbook from the Monroe Carrel Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt (Nashville, TN), was featured as a “Cookbook Worth Collecting” in the November/December issue of Southern Lady magazine.

Millie Coleman, author of The South's Legendary Frances Virginia Tea Room Cookbook, is keeping busy promoting the twenty-fifth anniversary edition of her cookbook. In September, she has a book signing at The Kitchen Emporium in Anderson, South Carolina, as well as a TV taping in Greenville, South Carolina (Dove Station), which will air several times each month in October and November, reaching stations in South Carolina and Georgia. She will also be featured in the September issue of South Carolina Home & Garden Magazine.

Are you an FRP Publisher with good news to share about your cookbook? We want to hear about any media coverage, successful events, or goals reached. Please send your news to marketing@frpbooks.com, and we will put it in the next issue of Table Talk.
