MAKE REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROMOTIONS PART OF WORKING WITH WHOLESALE ACCOUNTS

Put in place at least four specials per year which you can offer during each quarter to your wholesale accounts. That way when you contact them they'll know it’s something worth their while to pay attention to. An E-mail blast is a really good and inexpensive method of communicating to a very large group of contacts, if you have their E-mail addresses. There are also those who don't use E-mail, and they will need a phone call or postcard with the offer. Be sure to note the style by which they prefer to be contacted in your database management system to make the most of your promotional communications. Click here for suggested promotions.

Holidays are a great time to write press releases

The holidays are a cookbook publishers dream. Typically during the holidays people are cooking more, looking for recipes, and “in the mood for food.” It is a great time to write press releases and pitch aspects of your cookbook (recipes, menus, tips, etc.) that would be useful during the upcoming holidays. What does your cookbook contain that would help the average cook during the holidays? Great uses for the Thanksgiving turkey leftovers? Easy, yet unique appetizer recipes for a party? Creative food gifts? Twists on traditional holiday fare? Pitch your local media and don't forget television and radio. Be sure that you have contact information in your press release and be available to answer questions or appear on-air to prepare the recipe.

Want to pitch something outside of the “traditional holidays?” Did you know October is National Apple Month and National Dessert Month? November is Good Nutrition Month and Peanut Butter Lover’s Month.  For more ideas on national events, month themes, and holidays, pick up a copy of Celebrate Today by John Kremer or visit your local library to review Chase’s Calendar of Special Events. The possibilities for your cookbook publicity are endless.
