December 12, 2008

The Junior League of Mobile’s award-winning cookbooks Recipe Jubilee! and One of A Kind are both loaded with definitive southern recipes and both now out of print. To revive these iconic books, the League has selected the best-of-the-best recipes from both and present them in Best of the Bay: Selected recipes from Recipe Jubilee! & One of A Kind.

Best of the Bay is no ordinary cookbook: this compact paperback, spiral-bound collection measures 5”x5” and is the ultimate go-to guide to keep handy in the kitchen. Entirely functional, the book’s four chapters feature recipes for starters, seafood classics, “tried & true” all-time favorites, and delicious southern desserts.

As good things often come in small packages, some amazing recipes from Best of the Bay include:

- Eggplant with Shrimp: This recipe uses the eggplant shells as boats to float the shrimp, cheddar cheese, onion, green pepper, creamy sauce and spices in. Once browned and bubbly, you know it will be a delicious endeavor.

- Nanny’s Never Fail Crab Gumbo: Shrimp gumbo’s a given, but this gumbo that calls for crab, shrimp, and all the usual gumbo fixings.

-Divine Casserole: Old-school and delicious, this casserole is like the one Grandma always brought to every church potluck. With egg noodles, ground beef, cream style cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, and a couple of other fixings, it’s Heaven in a casserole dish.

- Chocolate Pound Cake: Deceitfully light, this cocoa-laden pound cake has an even more enticing icing that calls for vanilla, cocoa and coffee.

Southern hospitality has never been so simply fabulous than Best of the Bay makes it. All of the proceeds from the purchase of Best of the Bay support the Junior League of Mobile’s commitment to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the Mobile community.
