LIFE AND FOOD “OUT OF BOUNDS” AND NATION-WIDE
November 21, 2005

What happens when you take a motorcycle-riding, golf-playing, world class chef with a collection of more than 700 international cookbooks and put him on the road? The Fairway Gourmet, Chef Jacky Pluton’s new book, is exactly the kind of high-energy, robust and life-affirming cookbook such a person would create. The chef himself says it best: “People say I am a great chef and a pretty average golfer. I love to cook and I love to golf, and I am passionate about these things.” PBS viewers in 40 media markets across the country will get to know Jacky through his 30-minute television show of the same title this fall.

The Fairway Gourmet visits golf destinations throughout North America, from Pebble Beach, the Napa Valley, and Ojai on the West Coast to New York City, Kiawah Island, Sea Island, Ponte Verda, and Amelia Island on the East Coast, with stops in Arizona, Illinois, and Wisconsin on the way. Each location is presented as a way to experience the natural beauty, regional recipes, and sensory adventures offered by each destination. Between golf games, Jacky invites readers (and viewers) to join him for breezy motorcycle rides to book shops, antique stores, fresh markets, and local vineyards—adding a sense of joyful discovery to the journey.

More than a cookbook, more than a travel guide, this colorful armchair golfers’ virtual journey stimulates the appetite, inspires cooks to try new recipes, and invigorates readers with a unique joie de vivre. Jacky Pluton moved to the United States in 1986. Ten years later, he opened the first of several restaurants and had by that time earned succession of Five-Star Mobil ratings and unequivocal praise from the Chicago food press.

The Fairway Gourmet was edited, designed, and manufactured by FRP in Nashville, Tennessee. Since 1961, FRP has produced more than 800 titles for individuals, companies, and nonprofit organizations from coast to coast. Full support and consultation are available in the creation, production, marketing, and distribution of a cookbook. FRP is a division of Southwestern/Great American, Inc.
