In Devarim 6:7, G-D relays the all important Mitzvah “…and you shall teach them diligently to your children…” This phrase is recited daily in the significant prayer of Shema and refers to transmitting Torah knowledge to children. The Sefer Ha Chinuch states that this directive actially means that “the community in every single locality is obligated to establish children’s teachers,” i.e. that each community must establish a school system. In support of its school system, Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy is proud to announce the seventh printingof its noted cookbook, The Kosher Palette: Easy and Elegant Modern Kosher Cooking, Regional Winner in the 2002 Tabasco Cookbook Awards.

While many people today don’t have the time or energy to prepare the kinds of kosher meals they grew up with, the parents of the Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy have compiled more than three hundred recipes that emphasize fresh ingredients, ease of preparation, personal style, and adherence to kashrut. These triple-tested recipes celebrate kosher hospitality and are seasoned with personal anecdotes from contributors. More than two hundred cooks from eight local communities donated their time, energy, and culinary skills to create this lively and entertaining cookbook, with dozens of tips for everything from serving suggestions and table decoration to recipe variations, and much more.

Proceeds from the sale of The Kosher Palette benefit Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy and Kushner Yeshiva High School in Livingston, New Jersey. Founded in 1942 in Newark, the school is today recognized as one of the finest Modern Orthodox day schools in the United States. The school also houses the unique SINAI Institute, which is the only elementary Yeshiva program in the region that caters to the special needs of developmentally challenged children.
