In October 2000, the Ohio Restaurant Association (ORA) created the Ohio Hospitality Education Foundation (OHEF) to bring the nationally recognized culinary educational program, ProStart® to the state’s high school juniors and seniors. Dessert First collects recipes from the program’s teachers and students, ORA members, credentialed chefs, and restauranteurs. Proceeds from the book support the OHEF in its efforts to educate, train, and mentor students.

Dessert First includes eighty-four recipes for sumptuous sweets, from pastries and pies to fruit desserts and cheesecakes. The diverse collection includes recipes that range from everyday favorites—Chocolate Malt Brownies and Red Velvet Cake—to inventive flourless cakes, Guinness Cheesecake, several crème brûlée recipes, and much more. This is an essential book for cooks who delight in surprising friends and family with home-baked sweets.

The Ohio Hospitality Education Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization dedicated to preparing Ohio’s high school students for top-wage, high-skill careers in the hospitality industry. A National Certificate of Achievement, college credits, and scholarship opportunities are also part of the program.

Dessert First was edited, designed and manufactured by FRP in Nashville, Tennessee. Since 1961, FRP has produced more than 800 titles for individuals, companies, and nonprofit organizations from coast to coast. Full support and consultation are available in the creation, production, marketing, and distribution of a cookbook. FRP is a division of Southwestern/Great American, Inc.
