When Randi Lee Levin moved from the east coast to Colorado for college, she discovered that many of the family favorite recipes she learned from her grandmother didn’t work. With the higher elevation, she found that many dishes needed adjustment for the thinner, drier air. The process of experimentation to produce light and airy baked goods, succulent roasts, and all of the great dishes she knew caused her to begin experimenting with new ingredients and combinations to create her own original recipes.

Her first collection of original recipes, Baking at High Altitude: The Muffin Lady’s Old-Fashioned Recipes (ISBN: 0-9745008-1-X, $18.95) won several awards, including Gourmand World Cookbook Award and the first place in the Colorado Independent Publishers Association EVVY awards.

Sharing Mountain Recipes – The Muffin Lady’s Everyday Favorites (ISBN: 0-9745008-2-8, $28.95) is the newest collection of recipes from Randi Levin, whom Coloradoans know as “The Muffin Lady.” This cookbook is packed with 472 recipes, tips and suggestions with the feel of a trusted family friend and guiding experienced hand. Though these were developed with special consideration for cooks at high altitudes, the beauty of this book is that they work beautifully at any elevation.

With its extensive tips, recipe variations, and advice on working with ingredients, Sharing Mountain Recipes is one of those cookbooks every cook can use time and again whether for entertaining a crowd, or just to feed the family.

Every food made with love and filled with palate-pleasing flavors is a comfort food, and this is where The Muffin Lady, Randi Levin, shows her greatest strength. Comfort foods reign supreme here – six recipes for macaroni and cheese, including one designed for whole wheat pasta; a standout meatloaf; super French onion soup and many more in addition to the dozens of baked goods sure to delight! In the hands of The Muffin Lady, it’s all comfort food--the portabello veggie burger, wheatless burrito salad, and curried chicken salad—plus dozens more recipes from diverse cuisines, sure to please with ease for entertaining and family dinners.
