Open to any publisher with an interest in learning how to introduce a new cookbook to the marketplace or any publisher with an existing cookbook that needs new and fresh marketing ideas.

Attendees choose one of the following introduction courses:
Cookbook Development 101 - Examine the elements of cookbook development, including theme, title selection, recipe collection, and testing.  An overview of editing considerations (including pagination and nutritional analysis), as well as effective use of nonrecipe text will be presented.  You will learn the intricacies of cookbook design and see how all the pieces of the puzzle fit together to create the cookbook of your dreams.  Individual meetings can be scheduled with members of the FRP Team to discuss your custom project in more detail.
Cookbook Marketing 101 - Freshen up on the basic principles of marketing and how they apply to a thriving cookbook.  Hear success stories that illustrate the tremendous opportunities associated with self-publishing cookbooks.

Working with FRP 101 - This course will take you through the system and explain how FRP works with publishers to have a successful cookbook project from start to finish.  Great overview for those who are new to the world of publishing, and a nice refresher for publishers with an existing book.
Publicity 101 - Learn the basics of writing a press release, putting together a great media kit and gaining exposure with little expense.  See actual examples from FRP publishers, while learning how to maximize public relations avenues.
Retail Sales/Special Events 101 - Learn about your opportunity to pull in the most profit per book through retail sales.  Capitalize on sales through members of your organization, friends, and community supporters.  Learn how to orchestrate successful special events and hear examples from FRP publishers.

Budgets, Plans, and Goal Setting 101 - Learn about the necessary elements of annual budgeting and planning for the success of your cookbook business.  Learn how to set realistic goals for the number of books to sell in one year.  Answer questions such as: Do I need a marketing plan and how much should I allocate for promotional materials?
Existing Book Sales 101 - Do you have an older book in need of a marketing tune up?  This session will provide you with tips for jump starting your cookbook sales.
Wholesale Sales 101 - Learn how to work with local retail outlets, whom to approach, and what to expect in order to get your books on their shelves.  Develop your own "hit" list of wholesale accounts during this session.

Presales and Sponsorships & Underwriting 101 - Think you can't sell books until they are printed?  Think again!  Learn how to gain momentum through presales and sell a percentage of your books before they arrive at your doorstep.  Learn how to obtain underwriting for your book project during the development process or when reprinting an existing book.  Find out whom to contact and how to approach prospective corporations.  Develop sponsor relationships for assistance with book, event or other self-publishing expenses.  Hear examples and strategies from FRP publishers.
Distribution Sales 101 - Find out why distribution is an important part of your sales mix.  Learn what a distributor is, how to choose the right one to work with, and how to make the most of that relationship in order to sell more books.
Working with and Motivating Your Committees 101 - Recommended committee structure and suggestions for positions within the committees will be provided.  Learn how to motivate, inspire, and lead by uncovering common obstacles committees face.

Cookbooks Are a Business 101 - Learn procedures for setting up a new cookbook business as well as how to make the existing business run more efficiently.  We will discuss inventory management, processing shipments, invoicing, and developing solid policies and procedures.
Nontraditional Book Sales 101 - Learn about "nontraditional" avenues for book sales, such as internet "affiliate programs," libraries, wholesale clubs, catalogs, and TV shopping networks.  Move large quantities of books by "partnering" with corporations within your local community.

Sansevieri!  She'll share easy ways to start a blog or podcast and tricks for keeping them going.  Did you know that most bloggers or podcasters only keep the momentum for a month?  This session will show you simple things you can do so you never have to worry about running out of ideas or ways to market yourself!
Penny will cover:
  • What the heck is RSS and why you should use it
  • Blog, blog, blog – the best and fastest way to get a blog
  • Podcasting simplified: if you think audio is no big deal think again, podcasting is inexpensive and a fast way to build an audience
  • What and how to use social bookmarking

Internet Marketing 201 - If you think you have your Internet marketing covered with just a web site, you might be missing out on a bucket of Internet gold.  Special guest speaker Penny C. Sansevieri will pack this class with information on everything from creating the perfect web site to demystifying keywords and how to create a great blog.  She'll also discuss how to turn web site visitors into customers and how to maximize your internet promotional efforts through blogs, internet articles, chat groups, and ezines.  She will also share super simple things anyone can to do get themselves into the Web 2.0 marketing world.  You’ll walk away with fun ideas, simple tricks, and tons of helpful advice.
